VR and the FlightFactor 757

I recently was able to purchase the FlightFactor 757 for X-Plane. It’s a great product that does a great job of simulating a complex aircraft, and I’ll be the first to admit I still have a lot to learn… and for me, I enjoy learning about these amazing machines through the X-Plane flight simulator. Even more immersive is experiencing the product in Virtual Reality (VR). Sitting in my VR “holodeck” and learning to fly these virtual planes is one of my favorite hobbies.

After visiting with a fellow Twitch streamer (757Spy) about this particular experience, one of the common short falls in VR is the inability to “turn on” the VHF radios in the virtual cockpit. I think it has to do with FlightFactor using a different approach to the VR interface, but that’s my speculation at this time. So… after a little investigation, I’ve created a .lua script that allows the VR user to interact with the radios.

You’ll need the FlyWithLua NG plugin, available at this link. Then, you’ll need this package… FF757_VR_Radios_v1.zip

The contents of FF757_VR_Radios_v1.zip needs to be extracted into your X-Plane/Resources/plugins/FlyWithLua/Scripts folder similar to this picture. If you already have FlyWithLua installed, you might have other files in this folder. Once installed, it’s probably a good idea to restart X-Plane. Then you should have access to this FlyWithLua macro. When you run the macro inside VR, it will create a window with buttons allowing you to turn on and off the VHF radios. This window can be easily placed in the blank spot on the center console of the 757. Enjoy your time in the “Oasis.”
