The Bush Hooligans are no strangers to the Kenai Peninsula. We’ve been here once before, visiting the picturesque lakes that dot the high country. Fly-in #46 brings us back to the area, to enjoy more of what this amazing country has to offer. Come along with us. Let’s look over the next ridgeline and see what there is to see.
Bush League Basics:
Everyone is welcomed! Whether you’re an expert or beginner with flight simulators, radio communications, or navigation, etc., you’re invited! We’re a friendly bunch and enjoy learning from each other.
The best aircraft for these events are those that can handle smaller airstrips as well as a few even smaller off-airport landing areas. Plan a high performance, STOL capable aircraft today. The route is fairly short, with a mix of all types of airstrips, and terrain. You will need the ability to set it down nice and slow, but also the muscle to climb up and out.
We encourage you to join the VATSIM network and use the CTAF frequency of 122.8 to announce positions. We will be departing from a controlled field to get things started. If ATC is online, we will communicate with them as required.
We’ll also use the Downwindsim Discord voice channel during the flight for non-ATC related chit-chat.
As always, the main goal of these flights is to have fun and practice good airmanship. The weather in Alaska can vary, so configure as you see fit. Due to the time of year, we should have plenty of daylight.
Flight Information:The event takes place on Monday, August 7th. We will gather at Seward (PAWD) for a short flight briefing at 8:00pm EST (technically 0000z on Aug 8th) with departures shortly after. The plan will be for aircraft to make a round trip, visiting charted airstrips Lawing (9Z9), Quartz Creek (LJA), Hope (5H0), Girdwood (AQY), and Whittier (PAWR) before returning to Seward. As usual, there are a few unmarked landing spots marked on Uncle Melvin’s Map. You may even meet a hippy or two. Pilots are free to visit the locations in whichever order they choose.

Super excited for this one!
